At about 11:20 a.m. on October 25, the network of Korea Telecom (KT) was interrupted for about 1 hour and 25 minutes, resulting in a large area of network disconnection.

After the accident, various services based on KT Internet, such as portal website, securities trading system and shop payment system, were paralyzed. Many users could not make calls or even connect customer service calls, causing many serious consequences. According to the report, KT said that the previous network paralysis lasted about 89 minutes. The types and degrees of victims of users vary, and it is difficult to confirm.

Accordingly, individual and enterprise users will receive 15 hours of tariff reduction, and individual industrial and commercial households will receive 10 days of tariff reduction.

KT stressed that the amount of compensation is based on the access line. Including duplicate lines, the compensation object of this accident covers 35 million lines, and the total compensation will reach 35 billion won to 40 billion won (about 190 million to 220 million yuan).

According to previous news, the cause of the accident was initially network failure caused by traffic overload of KT's domain name system (DNS) server. Subsequently, the staff omitted the "exit" command in the process of replacing the enterprise router, resulting in the setting error in Busan for the first time.

After that, the impact of network failure only occurred within 30 seconds and all over the country, such as Seoul, due to the lack of security devices for data transmission errors in KT.

In addition, the management of equipment replacement is not in place.
